The presidential public financing system has served America well since 1976 by allowing candidates to raise the funds needed to wage competitive campaigns. The House of Representatives has already voted to eliminate the system which has substantially reduced corruption and the appearance of corruption in the executive branch since its inception.
Repair legislation is expected soon that takes into account the changes that have occurred in presidential campaigns in recent years. It is this legislation that Congress should be focusing on.
