In Calvert County there are three seats to be filled on the Board of Education and nine candidates have filed: four in the First District; three in the Second District; and two in the Third District. The 2008 Primary Election will narrow the field to two candidates per District. Because there are only two candidates in the Third District, they will not appear on the 2008 Primary Election Ballot but will go directly to the November 4, 2008 General Election Ballot where the one candidate receiving the highest number of votes from each of the three Districts (First District, Second District, Third District) will be elected to the three vacant seats on the Board of Education. NOTE: School board candidates are voted county-wide, similiar to how the County Commissioners are elected. Even though they run by the election district in which they live, all voters may vote for school board candidates, regardless of election district or party affiliation. The top two vote-getters from District 1 & 2 will advance to the General Election in November 2008. Since there are only two candidates from District 3, both will automatically advance to the General Election ballot.
