I have been an award winning teacher with 40 years of experience in higher education. I have considerable administrative experience including serving as Chair of the University of Minnesota Management Department. I have written numerous books and articles and lectured worldwide on leadership, civics, technology, corporate responsibility, and the environment. PRIORITY:
Attracting and retaining highly skilled teachers is crucial. Teachers must be well-paid, respected, and appreciated. The public schools have expanding responsibilities for an increasingly diversified student body. Education must adjust to new research about how students learn. All students deserve the opportunity to achieve to the best of their ability
BUDGET:
We owe taxpayers the best education possible in return for their hard-earned dollars. The County Council must be convinced that the education budget is based on hard data about educational processes. We must continue to have goals against which we can measure success and continue to have a strategic plan.
ROLE:
Board communication with the public and active involvement with the schools is imperative. I will be a good team player. I will use my University experience to access the latest research on educational excellence and will take the time to attend conferences that focus on techniques for achieving educational excellence.
