CORRECTIONS

CORRECTIONS Persons looking for reforms or other changes in Maryland’s correctional and prison system should focus for the most part on the state budget, where amounts appropriated will be of greater importance than most of the legislation which may be filed. Only one bill has been filed to date, similar to one which didn’t make it in 2007. SB 145 (Chair, Judicial Proceedings Committee, by request from Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services) Corrections Services – Maryland Correctional Enterprises – Goods and Services would remove a prohibition against the sale of services by the Maryland Correctional Enterprises and authorize the sale of goods from Maryland Correctional Enterprises to individuals employed by the State or a State-aided or State-controlled entity. Assigned initially to Judicial Proceedings, it has been referred to Education, Health and Environmental Affairs. No hearing date has been set. Marcia Reinke
